The right-wing said this animated story of a bullied kid, a pack of zombies, and an ancient curse was part of the secret gay agenda. So we asked the movie's creators what they have to say for themselves. THE Australian movie ''The Sum of Us'' is a love story but not a romance: it's a duet between two men, a father and a son, one straight and one gay. It's also a window into the early work of a brawnily intuitive actor who went on to become a huge star: Russell Crowe. Actors don't always become stars by paying serious attention to the way their craft develops; sometimes it's even a liability for them to do so.
I've tried to hear the dialogue three times. Finally got an idea and turned on captions! Great stuff that are "so natural" are often mumbled performances. Surely someone in technology can eliminate the need to, either crank the sound, or get sound bars!
Gay actors have been coming out left, right and centre. These changes, albeit a marketing, not a film-making decision, nevertheless stand in a time-honoured industry tradition of downplaying homosexuality. Homosexual agenda or gay agenda is a term introduced by sectors of the Christian religious right primarily in the United States as a disparaging way to describe the advocacy of cultural acceptance and normalization of non-heterosexual orientations and relationships. The term refers to efforts to change government policies and laws on LGBT rights -related issues. Additionally, it has been used by social conservatives and others to describe alleged goals of LGBT rights activists, such as recruiting heterosexuals into what conservatives term a "homosexual lifestyle".
It has generated much discussion and some debate. The film simply tells the stories of three gay and lesbian Seventh-day Adventists who wrestle with how to reconcile their faith, identity, and sexuality. One young man spent five years in "ex-gay" therapy trying to become straight.
For two-thirds of the 20th century, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered LGBT people were excluded from the American self-portrait as created by Hollywood on the nation's motion picture screens. Even today, nearly 40 years after the code's demise, mainstream Hollywood shies away from films focusing directly on queer America. Generally, gays are restricted to playing colorful best friends or dying nobly from fatal diseases.
Tuesday, February 06, I don't think it's possible to change from gay to straight and I've noticed that the people who usually try to change are those who have changed decided to convert to a religion that doesn't allow homosexuality. If you're just doing what your religion tells you to, how real can it be?
